Prime Minister Ponta Meets with AMRO

2/11/2015  – Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta called for strengthening the U.S.-Romanian commercial relationship at a roundtable discussion hosted by the American-Romanian Business Council (AMRO) on February 11. The Prime Minister met with 20 American companies to discuss Romania’s economic priorities and opportunities.

Acknowledging official indicators of strong growth in Romania, AMRO President Eric Stewart stated “these numbers are only a small part of the story.” He said the best indicator of Romania’s developing prosperity is the number of U.S.-based multinational companies “committed to doing business in Romania.”

The companies present expressed optimism about continued expansion in Romania, despite the existence of some continued challenges to doing business there. Stewart stressed the importance of open conversation to building strong economic ties and praised Prime Minister Ponta for his past willingness to engage with the private sector.

Prime Minister Ponta thanked AMRO for its continued effectiveness in building bridges between American companies and Romania. Concluding his remarks, he invited companies to work with his office to identify and overcome barriers to bringing more investments to Romania.
